Your Spidey senses are tingling!

We know, Mysterio revealing Peter Parker as New York’s friendly neighborhood superhero in “Spider-Man: Far From Home” feels like eons ago after a rather uneventful 2020 for Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films. But things are about to get wild this time with the coming of the third, and probably the last, film of “Spider-Man” franchise headlined by actor Tom Holland.

Last August, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures gave a first glimpse of the newest adventure of the young Avenger, and it featured many familiar faces from “Spider-Man” movies past. The latest installment follows the last events of “Far From Home,” and presents Peter’s life after his secret identity has been publicized. He now seeks Doctor Strange’s help in changing the reality to keep Spider-Man’s alter ego in the dark, but it comes with unintended consequences.

Who’s coming back?

“Spider-Man” stars Tom Holland (Peter Parker), Zendaya (MJ), Jacob Batalon (Ned), Marisa Tomei (Aunt May Parker), and Jon Favreau (Harold “Happy” Hogan) reprise their roles. J.K. Simmons, who starred in the 2002 Tobey Maguire “Spider-Man” film, portrays Jonah Jameson, the host of TheDailyBugle.net. Tony Revolori, Angourie Rice, and Jorge Lendeborg Jr. are also coming back as Midtown School of Science and Technology students with Hannibal Buress as their gym teacher.

Who’s new in the cast?

Also appearing in the film are Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange and also “Spider-Man” movie alumni Alfred Molina and Jamie Foxx, stepping in again as supervillains Doctor Octopus and Electro, respectively. While there are talks about Willem Dafoe reprising his Green Goblin role for the movie, there are no confirmations about it yet.

Rumored castings

While the coming of Spider-Man’s foes from past films tickled the minds of fans about actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, who had portrayed the masked hero, joining the film, Tom sets the record straight saying to Total Film, “People don’t believe me when I say that [Maguire and Garfield] are not coming back… But people are going to have to believe me at some point.” Andrew also told Entertainment Tonight that he “closed the book” about donning the blue-red costume.

What is the new movie about?

According to Sony Pictures, in the new movie, directed by Jon Watts and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, “for the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero is unmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from the high-stakes of being a superhero. When he asks for help from Doctor Strange the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.”

When will it come to the theaters?

“Spider-Man: No Way Home” is set to premiere in theaters in the US and the UK on Dec. 17, 2021. In the Philippines, the film will be released on Jan. 8, 2022.
