Sad news was released last Sunday, November 14, when Houston’s Mayor Sylvester Turner tweeted the death of nine-year-old boy Ezra Blount. “I am saddened to learn of Ezra’s death this evening. Our city tonight prays for his mom, dad, grandparents, other family members and classmates at this time. They will need all of our support in the months and years to come. May God give them strength.”

Blount was among the many attendees at Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival in Houston last November 5 when a large group tried their luck to get closer to the stage, but this resulted to many injuries and deaths. According to USA Today, Ezra, who was a fan of Travis Scott, was travelling with his father Treston in the hopes of having a good father-and-son bonding time at the concert. “They were expecting to come and have a good time with each other, bond as father and son, and it turned into a tragic event because of the negligence of others,” Bernon Blount, the grandfather, told the Associated Press.

A GoFundMe fundraiser was put up by the father. “I began to be crushed until I couldn’t breathe. And I woke up and my son was gone,” he wrote online. Ezra was placed in a medical coma but succumbed to death last November 14. An estimate of 55,000 people attended the concert. Other victims’ ages range from 14 to 27.
