Gianna Jun, most commonly known here in the Philippines as Jun Ji Hyun, is excited as she stars in an upcoming special episode for Netflix’s “Kingdom: Ashin of the North.”

Ashin of the North

Jun is known for her femme fatale glam performance in the 2012 movie “The Thieves,” and her daring diva actress role as Song Yi (or Steffie Cheon in the Filipino dubbed version) in the 2013 winter drama “My Love From The Star” but this time around, she gets to lead in the special episode of the zombie blockbuster series “Kingdom.”

Gianna Jun is accompanied by her co-actor Park Byung-Eun, Season 2’s director Kim Seong-hun, and show writer Kim Eun-hee in a press conference held in South Korea on July 20, 2021. She says she was much prepared for the stamina and physique even before the role was finalized. Her main focus while getting into character was how to interpret what Koreans call the Han (an intense feeling of sorrow, resentment, and deep anger) towards fighting for Joseon.

Director Kim Seung-hun was also excited and claims that no director in the industry would decline working with a great actress such as Gianna Jun.

Park Byung-Eun, on the other hand, focuses more on relationships he has built with others, relating it to the spread of the disease of the undead. He says that a point to focus on, which will be revealed with the special episode, is the “why” to all the archery we are set to see.

Park and Jun both admit to have gotten much closer after working again together in the special episode. The episode is set in Jeju Island, and the two amazing actors even joked around during the press conference about their bonding together while fishing for yellow tails and cuttlefish.

The two also hope that the chemistry they had off-cam would also translate to their on-screen performances for the rest of the world to enjoy.
