It’s about time professional networking and career linking site LinkedIn tuned in to working parents all over the world. The site realized how this pandemic has changed how parents have been adjusting to this “new normal,” with most couples taking turns being a “stay-at-home” parent.

Before COVID-19, management would most likely scoff at the seeing employment gaps in resumes, associating this as a disadvantage to parents who want to go back to work after taking a parental leave. Well, LinkedIn’s engineering director Bef Ayenew has informed CBS MoneyWatch that these new titles such as “parental leave,” “family care,” and “sabbatical” choices will “allow full-time parents and caretakers to more accurately display their roles.”

Other features include setting employment type to self-employed, and eventually adding an option to explain gaps. Ayenew adds, “We’ve heard from our members, particularly women and mothers who have temporarily stopped working, that they need more ways to reflect career gaps on their profile due to parenting and other life responsibilities.”
