It’s the female support group you never thought you needed, with Pia Wurtzbach, Carla Lizardo, and Bianca Guidotti

These days, beauty pageants are more than just the façade. Every candidate can walk gracefully in heels. Everyone worked hard to look great in a dress. But it is always the dreaded question and answer portion that truly seals the deal. It proves that candidates have substance that go with their style. And, oftentimes, this is where the true dark horse reigns supreme.

As much as we would like to differ, beauty pageants mirror the everyday life of a woman. Some work nine to five in heels, others channel their personality on the clothes they put on. But what every woman cannot escape are the criticism and the “tita” questions, which are sometimes much harder to answer compared to those asked in the Miss Universe pageant.

Facing those questions and other topics women aren’t keen on discussing are beauty queens Pia Wurtzbach, Carla Lizardo, and Bianca Guidotti Santos in their podcast dubbed “Between Us Queens.”

“Carla, Bianca, and I have been friends since 2014. We met because we competed in years [in] Bb. Pageant, where we were supposed to compete with each other. Instead, we became best of friends,” Pia said. “More than ‘pageant sisters,’ we became sisters in real life, sharing real experiences beyond the crowns or titles. This is what this podcast is all about.”

What used to be a podcast focusing on pageant concerns, “Between Us Queens” now takes on women’s issues, not pondering on where they went wrong, but how to empower women in situations they are uncomfortable with. In its latest episodes, the pageant sisters talk about topics such as why losing weight is hard, when is the right time to get married, quarter life crisis, and even about girls getting dumped. All these topics are dissected in fun and candid conversations—any Filipina couldn’t help but say, “I know, I feel you.”

“We realized how much sharing with each other helped us to cope with life in general and kept us focused on the future,”  said Bianca. “Kaya din naman gusto namin ang podcasts, dahil you get to learn new things kahit naghuhugas ka lang ng pingan (We like podcasts because you get to learn new things even while washing the dishes).”

“With ‘Between Us Queens,’ we want to let our guard down. We want to have a vulnerable, honest, and fun conversation about life, love, and our careers,” Carla said. “We want to bring you with us just because we could all use a support system nowadays. At alam namin na madami rin kaming matutunan sa inyo (We know that we will also learn many things from you).”

Currently making waves on Spotify’s podcasts charts, “Between Us Queens” offers a perfect and enjoyable way to celebrate Women’s Month. Don’t be fooled by the title, queens or not are welcome to join their conversation. So grab a drink, sit back, and hit the play button.
