Film franchises that truly become successful are a dime a dozen. in recent history, one of these is Peter Jackson’s trilogy revival of J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic The Lord of the Rings. I mean, who hasn’t seen the three films and their extended versions (each nearly four hours long)? If you haven’t yet, you have more time now to do so. No excuses.
Now, nearly 20 years after the first installment in the trilogy hit theaters, the cast of the critically acclaimed films are making a comeback. They are, thanks to actor Josh Gad, reuniting apart.

In his YouTube channel, Josh made an unexpected announcement on May 27. What started as an interview with Sean Astin (Samwise in the LOTR films) quickly spiraled into a mini gathering of some of the Fellowships most notable fellas. First Elijah Wood (Frodo) popped into the conversation, followed by Dominic Monaghan (Merry) and then Billy Boyd (Pippin). Then Orlando Bloom (Legolas) joined in, followed by perhaps the best surprise of all, Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf) completing a dialogue with Elijah that mimicked a line between their characters in the film.
Josh then announced that this LOTR reunion apart is set for May 31, 9 a.m. PT. That’s May 30, 12 a.m. in the Philippines.

Also confirmed to join this reunion apart are Sean Bean (Boromir), Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn), Andy Serkis (Gollum), John Rhys-Davies (Gimli), Karl Urban (Éomer), Miranda Otto (Éowyn), and director Peter Jackson.
